Gallstones are hardened material that can form in the gallbladder. Many cause no symptoms, while symptomatic stones can produce upper-right abdominal pain, nausea or digestive discomfort.

Common evaluation may include clinical assessment and abdominal ultrasound. Treatment depends on symptoms and complications; symptomatic gallstones are often discussed with a surgeon.
When to seek medical assessment
- Sudden or persistent upper-right abdominal pain
- Pain after meals, nausea or vomiting
- Fever, jaundice or severe pain requires urgent medical assessment
